Heroes in Our Midst: Ted Smith

Heroes in Our Midst: A Thousand Ships, an exhibit at the Walters Art Museum that runs through Sunday, Nov. 8, honors members of the Baltimore City Public Schools community who possess the same heroic attributes as the Greek heroes highlighted in the larger Walters show Heroes: Mortals and Myths in Ancient Greece. The exhibit celebrates, to quote the Walters, “12 individuals in Baltimore public schools whose inherent charisma has had life-altering impact on those who come to know them.”

Ted Smith, a social studies teacher at Guilford Elementary/Middle School, "works around the clock with kids to help them excel," says Community School Coordinator Shana McIver. "Thanks to his tireless commitment and ability to engage the community in his efforts, Guilford students benefit time and again from his mentoring during and beyond school."
